Tucson Mineral Show
February 2003, Tucson, AZ - Page 1 of 5
Rick Dillhoff, Sammamish Washington

If you want to buy when the first new pieces are offered, you generally need to be in Tucson a day or two before the official opening when dealers are still getting set up. If you want to be there for the social event of the rock year, you need to go almost three weeks later for the opening of the convention center show. I solved the Tucson dilemma this year by going twice. As it turned out that still meant missing a promising mineral show but the only other alternative is to move to Tucson for three weeks and see if you still have a family waiting when you return. The La Quinta show had the honor of longest run - Starting January 25th and running a full three weeks. The fossil show at the Vagabond Inn (formerly the Ramada) opened on February 1st and mineral shows opened at the Executive Inn and Inn Suites motels on the 2nd. The total dealer count was down slightly, particularly at the Executive Inn, which has lost many of its higher end mineral dealers to the Westward Look Resort show, which runs for five days in the middle of the show calendar.
