Application Evaluation Process
Grant applications are typically reviewed by foundation personnel. If required, proposals may be sent to independent experts for additional review. Funding is contingent upon availability of funds within the foundation's annual budget. Among grant requests that are otherwise acceptable to the foundation, the board will establish priorities based upon objective and subjective criteria. These criteria will include:
- Scientific Merit - Proposed research must provide an original contribution to scientific knowledge, or a significant extension of previous research work.
- Applicability to Foundation Mission and Goals - The scope of the project should be relevant to the mission and goals of the Evolving Earth Foundation.
- Project Viability - Quality of the project design and content, qualifications of the project team, feasibility of proposed research and associated time line.
- Final Results - End product of research. This includes an evaluation of how the project will further the researcher's educational and career goals, how research results will be disseminated outside of the sponsoring institution, and who will benefit from the research. It is highly recommended that research results be published in a scientific journal.
Applicants will be notified of the decision of the foundation reviewers by April 30th, 2008. All decisions are final.
